Family Reunion – Day 2

We woke up fairly early and hit the road to make it to St. George by the end of the day. We made a few stops along the way and picked up a few New Mexico souvenirs.

We made a stop at Marble Canyon to see the Navajo Bridge.

The bridge is 600+ feet above the river.

It was a cool view and there were condors (or big raptors, I’m no expert mind you) flying from the bridge to the river below. They have a beautiful wing span. Too bad I couldn’t catch them with them opened.

Family Reunion – Day 1

We decided to attend a family reunion in Utah that we haven’t attend in many years. We left Tuesday night and headed for Roswell, NM. It’s a bit of a trek from Austin and we had a late start since Rob needed to leave after work.

Nothing but the open space.

Stiles Switch BBQ

Since we live in Texas it seems only fitting to have some discussion on BBQ. Though we are no experts on the subject, we do live close to the epicenter of Texas BBQ, Lockhart TX. This Friday, Robert and some associates of his had lunch at Stiles Switch BBQ located at 6610 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. (http://www.stilesswitchbbq.com/)

The Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew team is lead by Taylor, Texas native and owner Shane Stiles. Their pitmaster Lance Kirkpatrick brings over fifteen years of industry experience and an impressive resume to the establishment.

Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew was named after the historic 1800s I. & G. N. railroad stop Stiles Switch, Texas. It is also the namesake of the owner Shane Stiles. The inspiration for Stiles Switch BBQ is derived from Shane’s admiration of the Texas BBQ Legends he was raised on growing up in Central Texas.

Those in Robert’s party said the pork ribs are the best here. Though Robert is not a big fan of ribs, he did try some beef ribs and turkey along with mac & cheese and a cucumber tomato salad.

Definitely good food and a place he said he would take the family later. Have a great week. Stay Safe!

Welcome

Welcome to this site. This has been years in the making. I have had a desire to share weekend trips with pictures and fun stories with family and friends. I guess it started with my father-in-law and his RVing spirit. He has several blogs that he likes to follow and I have been promising him that I would start one as well since we take a lot of short trips (my husband loves to drive) and nothing says travel like taking pictures at 70 miles an hour through a dirty windshield. I don’t know why my husband doesn’t stop in the middle of the road so I can get that perfect picture. One day he will not be in such a hurry.
